Highway 401 stunt driving, fleeing police leads to multiple charges for Ontario man [Video]

An Oshawa man is facing multiple charges – including fleeing from police and stunt driving – after a high-speed chase on Highway 401 Tuesday.

A Durham Police Traffic Services officer was on patrol on Harmony Road in east Oshawa just before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when they observed a “suspicious” vehicle enter the highway and quickly accelerate to 150 km/h. A traffic stop was attempted but the vehicle fled “at a high rate of speed,” forcing the officer to call off the chase and alert police in the area to be on the lookout.

A short time later the vehicle was located in a nearby parking lot and as police approached the driver was observed “jumping from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat.”

Police said the driver attempted to claim he was not driving, but further investigation showed he was, indeed, behind the wheel.
