HIGHWAY CLOSED: Delivery van and semi-truck crash leaves victim dead in Hamilton [Video]

One person is dead and police have closed part of an Ontario highway after a head-on crash between a delivery truck and a tractor trailer in Hamilton.

The fatal crash happened on Monday around 9:30 a.m. in the area of Highway 5 and Rock Chapel Road in Hamilton, the OPP Highway Safety Division says.

Police say the two vehicles involved in the collision were a delivery van and a gravel truck, and pictures shared from the scene show the semi-truck with front-end damage and debris across the roadway.

Police say the tractor-trailer was loaded with gravel and headed eastbound when the westbound delivery truck came into the path of the semi. The delivery vehicle also caught fire.

One occupant of the delivery van was killed in the crash and ejected from the vehicle, police say.
