The driver of a tanker-truck “hauling dangerous goods” has died after the large vehicle rolled over on Highway 401 in Mississauga on Thursday morning, police say.
Ontario Provincial Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident, which took place shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Mississauga Road.
Numerous first responders in addition to Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Environment are at the scene of the crash, which has shut down sections of the busy highway to traffic.
OPP said the driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police added the large truck was carrying “dangerous goods,” but didn’t specify further.
Highway 401 express lanes are closed in both directions for the investigation, police said, adding the collector lanes remain open.
More details to come.
