UTICA, N.Y. — An incredibly heavy lake-effect snowfall took place in central New York from Thursday through Sunday.
The totals across our area are astounding, with snowfall measured in several feet.

A consistent west-northwest wind off of Lake Ontario brought the heaviest lake-effect snow to central and northern Oneida County throughout the weekend.
Long-duration lake-effect snow isn’t unprecedented.
What made this unique was the little change in wind throughout the event.
This allowed the snow to fall extremely heavy in a relatively small area.
How does this snow compare to historic events?
This is the heaviest snowfall in decades.
