An administrative error has left the Holland College Hurricanes baseball team feeling like their season was “ripped away,” their former head coach says.
The Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Association disqualified the team from the Atlantic championships this weekend in Halifax for having ineligible players. The school’s athletics department had misinterpreted eligibility rules, they were told.
“We unfortunately were under a lot of assumptions based on the information provided to us from the athletic department, from the registrar’s office… that we were good to go,” said Tyler Johnston, who tendered his resignation as head coach due to the incident.
“At the last minute, when things are finalized, we found out that those assumptions were wrong and the information we were provided was incorrect.”
Johnston said it felt like the season had been “ripped away.”
