Pageantry was on full display during the King and Queen’s second and final day in Ottawa, including a ceremonial 21-gun salute, a 100-strong military guard of honour and a flypast from four F18s.
Twenty horses from the Mounties’ musical ride escorted the royal couple in an open-top carriage, drawn by two horses, to the Senate, as large crowds lined the streets, in hope of catching a glimpse of the cavalcade, which preceded King Charles III opening Parliament and reading the Throne Speech.
The King was wearing a blue pin-stripe suit, and light blue tie, while Queen Camilla wore a blue dress and blue hat with an exaggerated brim, as well as a three-strand pearl necklace with a diamond clasp at the centre. With a nod to her role as Colonel in Chief of the Queen’s own regiment, Camilla also wore a diamond-encrusted Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada brooch.
