House fire in Steinbach leaves family safe but home destroyed – SteinbachOnline.com [Video]

A structure fire in Steinbach early Sunday morning has left a family safe but without a home just days before Christmas.

A motorist driving by a house on Main Street East around 6:45 a.m. spotted flames and quickly alerted the family inside, helping them evacuate to safety.

According to Steinbach Fire Chief Kel Toews, emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 7 a.m.

“When we pulled up to the scene, the entire attic was pretty much fully involved,” said Toews.

Firefighters worked alongside the Hanover and La Broquerie fire departments to extinguish the blaze. Toews explained the area lacks fire hydrants, requiring the other departments’ tankers to shuttle water to the site.
