Hudson’s Hope residents vote for a loan to fund new water treatment plant [Video]

HUDSON’S HOPE –The results are in after Hudson’s Hope residents voted on whether the town should borrow $5-million to build a permanent water treatment plant.

The district shared the final results of the vote: 134 residents are in favour of the loan, while 107 are against it.

Since July 2023 the district has been relying on a temporary water treatment plant. This came after a forced change in the water source during the construction of the Site C Dam.

The temporary solution in place has a monthly cost ranging from $27,000 to $75,000 per month for rent and maintenance. But residents are pushing for a permanent fix.

The voting results came two days after BC Hydro made another financial offer to support Hudson’s Hope. Hydro offered to fully fund the project, but no dollar figure has been offered yet.
