Human remains found on one of the Thousand Islands in Ontario [Video]

Police in eastern Ontario are investigating the discovery of human remains on an island on the St. Lawrence River near Gananoque, east of Kingston.

The discovery of the body was reported to Leeds OPP at 10 a.m. on Monday. The identity of the body has not been determined, and police do not yet know how long ago the individual died.

A postmortem examination has been scheduled.

The OPP declared they do not believe there is “any indication” of a risk to public safety. The Leeds OPP Crime Unit is investigating in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit is currently on the scene.
