Early-morning raids in Brampton and Montreal have led to eight arrests of accused human smugglers bringing migrants into the U.S. from Canada, police say.

The RCMP said on Thursday that around 100 officers in Ontario and Quebec were searching properties in both Brampton and Montreal as part of an investigation into an alleged “network of smugglers.”

Three homes in both cities were raided with seven men and one woman, all between the ages of 20 and 30 years old, were arrested.

One of the homes searched in Montreal was believed to have been used as a “stash house” to hide migrants before they were smuggled into the United States, according to the RCMP.

Mounties released a video of some of the arrests and searches on social media.
