Human trafficking incident halted by police in southern Ontario [Video]

An incident involving human trafficking has been intercepted by law enforcement officials in southern Ontario.

A report by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has reported that — in a joint effort with local RCMP — a human trafficking incident was intercepted today along the Niagara River.

Last year, the CBSA and the RCMP launched Project Disrupt and Deter, a purpose-built initiative to monitor areas along the International Railway Bridge in the Niagara region.

The incident which allegedly occurred today, according to law enforcement officials, was halted as a result of this multi-agency initiative.

Authorities allege that police were able to locate an attempted human smuggling incident in which an individual jumped off a moving freight train as it entered Canada.

The suspect then attempted to flee toward the town of Fort Erie, Ontario.
