Toronto Pearson Airport is preparing for the ice storm hitting southern Ontario this weekend.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for a potentially dangerous spring ice storm. The storm is expected to hit the GTA Friday afternoon or evening and continue through the weekend.

Pearson Airport officials said it is a busy Friday with more than 124,000 travellers on 960 flights.

The airport is prepared for the ice storm.

“Our teams are fully prepared as we closely monitor the freezing rain forecast for southern Ontario tonight,” airport officials said on X.

The deicing facility is fully operational with all six deicing pads ready, Pearson said.

They also have crews ready to treat runways and taxiways if needed.

Heavy snow across the Prairie provinces and Northern Ontario could impact some flights. Airport officials said they are also seeing freezing fog and low ceilings in the Maritimes.

As always, it is a good idea to check your flight status before heading out.
