BOISE, Idaho – Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador, along with 14 other attorneys general, has urged the Business Roundtable to abandon its DEI initiative.

The Business Roundtable refers to an association of the nation’s leading companies.

Labrador and his colleagues argue that these policies stray from free-market principles and may be legally questionable. They emphasize that corporations should focus on economic growth, job creation, and shareholder returns.

“Corporations have an obligation to focus on creating value for their shareholders,” Labrador said.

He warned against race-based hiring and DEI mandates, suggesting they could raise legal concerns under state and federal law.

The group of attorneys general criticized the Business Roundtable for shifting away from merit-based hiring. They believe that a corporation’s purpose should prioritize shareholders and hire based on merit.
