Illinois State Police: I-55 wrong-way crash in Will County leaves 2 dead; SB lanes reopen to traffic [Video]

WILL COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) — Two people were killed in a -head-on crash on I-55 in Wilmington Tuesday night, illinois State Police said.

The crash occurred at about 10:36 p.m. near milepost 238 as police said a Ford F-150 was driving north in the southbound lanes near milepost 238 and truck a GMC Yukon head-on. The Yukon was then hit by a semi-trailer.

Police said the driver and a passenger in the Yukon were both pronounced dead in the scene. Three children were transported to a hospital with injuries.

The driver of the Ford was also transported to a hospital with injuries.

Southbound I-55 was closed between River Road and Route 113 before reopening early Wednesday morning.
