Impaired driving charges after truck crashes into home in Ontario town [Video]

A Whitby man is facing impaired driving charges after crashing his truck into a home in Brooklin Saturday night, causing “significant” damage to the residence.

Durham Police said the 25-year-old driver then fled the scene on foot, prompting Air1 to be called in to help find him. He was caught not far from the scene and arrested.

Police were called to Carnwith Drive and Watford Street just before midnight Saturday after a truck left the road and smashed through a house. The white pick-up truck was travelling north on Watford at a “high rate of speed,” police said, when the driver failed to stop for a stop sign and crashed into the home.

The collision caused “significant structural damage” to the residence.

Officers searched the area with the assistance of Air1 and located the man not far from the scene of the incident.
