The traffic stop happened on Monday morning when officers with the Barrie Police Service pulled over a school bus headed to St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, according to police.

Investigators say they were tipped off by another law enforcement agency in another jurisdiction about the suspected impaired driver.

The driver had passengers on board at the time of the incident, police say.

Police say the 48-year-old male driver from Oro-Medonte, a township approximately 16 kilometres northeast of Barrie, was arrested and charged with one count of operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

No injuries were reported.

Police say anyone who suspects a driver of operating while impaired by drugs or alcohol is encouraged to call 911 and report it when safe to do so.
