INDIANAPOLIS — There are hazy and humid conditions again Tuesday afternoon with spotty rain developing during the heating of the day.

As we’ve mentioned since the weekend, you’re now seeing the increasing haze which is remnant smoke from hundreds of wildfires in the northwestern U.S. and especially western/northwestern Canada.

Visible satellite shows the southern extent of a denser smoke layer now south of Chicago. This layer is also closer to the surface which makes air quality an issue. We’re expecting near-surface smoke to increase overnight into Wednesday morning, from north-to-south, in central Indiana which results in worsening air quality.

It may reach unhealthy levels at times in the next 24 hours, especially for those with sensitive respiratory systems. Please take note and be prepared to spend time indoors if the AQI drops into the unhealthy range.
