The Prime Minister of India has condemned the violence that erupted at a Hindu temple in Brampton on Sunday calling it a “cowardly attempt” to intimidate.

In a statement released on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called on the Canadian government to protect those coming under attack and uphold the rule of law.

“I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada,” Modi said. “Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”

The incident took place on the grounds of Hindu Sabha Mandir on The Gore Road with videos posted online showing fights breaking out between two opposing religious groups. Both sides can be seen using sticks during the skirmishes.
