ORONO, Maine (WABI) – The Wilson Center in Orono held a potluck celebration and open dialogue for Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

“There’s a lot of people here from Penobscot Nation, even Passamaquoddy, who just want to celebrate, eat some good food, have good conversations, and really listen to what is being said,” said panelist, Liliana Sapiel.

Panelists discussed topics ranging from how to celebrate the holiday to the importance of preserving culture.

“It helps bring a space where we can figure out how to move forward together because we can’t undo everything that’s happened, of course. There are certain things that can be fixed, but nothing that can be reversed or undone, and these discussions, these topics, these spaces, they help us figure out how to build a better future for all of us,” explained panelist, Sage Neptune.
