The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has rolled out a plan for victims of this weekend’s ice storms in Ontario.
Concerning damages, the IBC has relayed what is commonly covered by most major insurance policies.
This includes damage to homes caused by flying debris, winds, or water connected to freezing rain storms.
Additional areas of coverage may also include:
- Overland flooding damage
- Damages related to ice damming and heavy snow buildup
- Appliance damage due to power outages
- Accommodation coverage (If home no longer safe)
“Some of the hardest-hit areas still do not have power restored, and it could be days before the entire electricity network is repaired. As people continue to grapple with the damage caused by this storm, I want them to know Ontario’s insurers are here to help and will be there to support customers every step of the way,” said Amanda Dean, VP for the Ontario and Atlantic branch of the IBC in a statement.
