IRELAND will look to expand trade relationships with countries including Canada, Japan, China, India and the UAE due to the chaos caused by Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The Cabinet will today hear a series of proposals from Business Minister Peter Burke and Trade Minister Simon Harris about enhancing Ireland’s competitiveness as a country where businesses want to set up.

Minister Burke is expediting the development of a new “Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity” in order to bring forward concrete proposals within 12 weeks.

There is concern that this will lead to the Coalition abandoning or delaying plans such as increasing the minimum wage and other improvements for workers.
