Is bird flu in my area of Ohio? ODNR lists suspected counties with sick birds [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has reported suspected cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) – also called bird flu -in wild birds across several counties, including Lucas County. Samples from multiple dead birds have been collected and are currently being tested by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Veterinary Services Laboratory.

In recent weeks, dead Canada geese, trumpeter swans and a mallard have been found and are under examination. While awaiting official test results, the Division of Wildlife is treating reports of dead birds in Lucas and other counties as presumed positive for HPAI.

The list of counties in which the dead birds are presumed positive for bird flu are Auglaize, Erie, Huron, Lucas, Mercer, Montgomery, Richland, Sandusky and Warren counties.
