Highway 407 ETR is used as a quick way to get around the Greater Toronto Area.
The tolled roadway remains privately operated and normally has less vehicles and traffic compared to other highways in the region.
While the provincially owned portion of Highway 407 recently had tolls removed, Highway 407 ETR — which makes up the vast majority of the roadway — remains tolled.
It stretches from Burlington to Brock Road in Pickering.
Given that it is privately operated, drivers may have wondered what policing is like on the highway and if it’s more lax compared to publicly owned roads.
But, as Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told INsauga.com, policing isn’t more lenient: “That’s the furthest thing from the truth.”
“We have been legislated to police all provincial highways and the 407, either privately owned or government owned,” Schmidt said.
“Our responsibility is to provide policing services and we do that under under contract with the 407, based on the legislation.”
