The first day of summer arrives on June 20 but southern Ontario residents can expect a blast of hot weather next week.

May has been unusually cool with highs from 10 to 13 C and rain around the long weekend. Environment and Climate Change Canada described it as the coldest late May in over a decade.

Below-normal temperatures continued this week and were expected into the weekend.

But over 20 C temperatures are expected the first week of June.

In the GTA, Monday’s high could reach 21 C, Tuesday could hit 25 C and on Wednesday the temperature could soar to 27 C, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The Weather Network forecasts a humidex of 29 C on Tuesday and then it could feel like 31 C on Wednesday and Thursday.
