WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Experiencing homelessness is a problem hundreds of people in our community are dealing with right now. This is why dozens of volunteers showed up at the Cape Fear Council of Governments building Wednesday morning to help in this year’s point-in-time count for New Hanover County.
“It’s really designed to get a snapshot of what homelessness looks like in our community,” said Cape Fear Council of Governments homeless services director Andrea Stough.
One of the volunteers who showed up was Novant Health social work intern, Maria Bottom.
“Our homeless population in Wilmington and across North Carolina is really underserved,” said Bottom. “Homelessness, it’s an epidemic here.”
After volunteers figured out where they were going to help out, they stopped by The Healing Place to grab care bags to give to the people they would meet.
