Following foot surgery six weeks ago, Steinbach’s Corny Rempel says he wants to help people understand just how important accessible spaces are. 

On September 6th, Rempel says the arch of his foot was re-built which meant a few of his bones were broken, a few shims were put in, his ankle was realigned, and a number of his tendons were replaced or repaired.  

As a result, Rempel says he has been using crutches, a mobility device called an iWalk and a wheelchair, and this has reinvigorated his belief that accessibility needs to be a priority. He notes using the wheelchair is particularly difficult. 

“It is eye opening how inaccessible so many stores are, and so many sidewalks. Even if I just want to go for a little jaunt around Steinbach, getting on and off of sidewalks, navigating the streets, going into stores where you try to go down an aisle because you …
