Legendary director James Cameron has opened up about his plans to gain New Zealand citizenship to escape US President Donald Trump’s second term in office.

Cameron, who is a citizen of Canada, has been living in New Zealand for close to two decades but is yet to gain citizenship.

In an interview on The F#$%ing News with Paddy Gower podcast, Cameron said that he sees Trump’s reelection as “horrific” and “horrifying”.

“America doesn’t stand for anything if it doesn’t stand for what it has historically stood for,” the Titanic director explained.

“It becomes a hollow idea, and I think they’re hollowing it out as fast as they can for their own benefit.

“I see a turn away from everything decent.”
