Jan. 17 weather: Temperatures to climb above zero in much of southern Ontario [Video]

After several days of clouds, light snow and chilly sub-zero temperatures, Mississauga and other parts of the Greater Toronto Area are in for a little winter warmup and sun on Friday.

That’s the word from Environment and Climate Change Canada (formerly Environment Canada), which is calling for temperatures to climb above freezing and reach a predicted high of 2 C on Friday in Mississauga and most other GTA spots.

Some areas will hover around the zero mark and 1 C while other parts of the GTA could hit 3 C. Ottawa, meanwhile, will stay a couple degrees below zero.

No matter where you are in the region, sunny skies are expected to accompany the milder weather, at least in the morning. As we near the noon hour on Friday, the weather agency expects increasing cloudiness.
