The jury has been selected for the trial of a man accused of killing his father in Guelph, nearly two years ago.

Jaspal Singh Sidhu has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.

Around 3:15 on the afternoon of Feb. 28, 2023, Guelph Police were called to a home on Hands Drive, in the city’s south end.

Officers found a 68-year-old man dead.

Sidhu, then 32-years-old, was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree murder.

At the Wellington County Courthouse on Thursday, Justice Cynthia Petersen told a packed courtroom of prospective jurors Sidhu allegedly stabbed his father, Balbir Singh Sidhu, during an argument.

Jaspal Singh Sidhu sat in the courtroom next to his lawyer, wearing a bright yellow short-sleeved shirt and dark pants.

It took less than an hour for 12 jurors and two alternates to be selected.

The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 13 and is expected to last about two weeks.
