K9 the hero as police foil auto theft in Ajax, Ontario [Video]

It was K9 officer Brooks to the rescue when Durham Police responded to an auto theft in progress in Ajax in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

West Division officers responded to a stolen vehicle in progress call on Pickett Street in Ajax just after 4 a.m. Sunday, with the suspects seen fleeing the scene as police arrived.

Multiple officers, along with the K9 Unit, searched the area. PSD Brooks tracked and apprehended one suspect while the second was arrested without incident.

Ethan Derose, 19, of No Fixed Address and Mohamed Naoquai, 19, of Quebec are both charged with motor vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, disguise with intent, trespassing, possession of break-instruments and possession of electronic device used in auto theft.

Naoquai was also charged with two release order violation orders.

They were both held for bail hearings.
