The new superintendent for Lynchburg City Schools is Kristy Somerville-Midgette, the school board announced at Tuesday evening’s work session.
Somerville-Midgette, who currently serves as superintendent for Brunswick County Public Schools, will replace Interim Superintendent Ben Copeland on July 1.
“The Board was very quick to identify Dr. Somerville-Midgette as our top candidate,” School Board Vice Chair Martin Day said during the board meeting. “She is straightforward, sincere, a quiet but strong leader who seeks to cultivate teamwork.”
Somerville-Midgette earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in special education from the University of Lynchburg and her doctorate in educational leadership and administration from Liberty University. She also served as an LCS special education teacher from 2003-2006.
