OTTAWA—Former central bank governor Mark Carney announced a run for Liberal leader and prime minister Thursday, promising a centrist focus on the economy and distancing himself from Justin Trudeau, the man he hopes to replace.
Pointing to the challenges Canada will face in a changing world, Carney said he wants to lead the country in that fight.
