The Liberal Party of Canada nearly swept the election battleground of Brampton, holding onto all but one riding amid Conservative Party of Canada gains.
As of 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, results Brampton’s electoral ridings have been tallied with the federal Liberals keeping ground in the stronghold of Brampton while losing one seat to the Conservatives.
All polls in Brampton West show the riding previously held by the Liberals has flipped to a new party, with Conservative candidate Amarjeet Gill defeating incumbent Kamal Khera with 21,112 votes to 20,214, a difference of 898 ballots.
Khera had been a controversial MP, stepping down as parliamentary secretary to the Minister of International Development after visiting the U.S. for memorials to her uncle and father during the COVID-19 pandemic.
