The Library of Virginia’s exhibit “Indigenous Perspectives” is hosting an event on Friday to commemorate the closing of the exhibit after an eight-month run.
The closing event will feature performances from tribal members, a drumming circle, dancing, traditional crafts and traditional food from Hungry Hungry Arrow food truck. Celebrations will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Library of Virginia at 800 E. Broad St. in Richmond.
The exhibit, which highlights Virginia’s original Indigenous communities, opened in December and is set to close officially Aug. 17.
It features documents in the library’s collections that emphasize 11 federally recognized tribes in the state. It also shows video clips from interviews with citizens of the commonwealth’s Indigenous tribes.
According to the Library of Virginia, all archival material selected for the exhibit was collaboratively chosen by archivists and tribes alike.
