Lions Club donations bring needed surgical equipment to Ontario hospital [Video]

Bowmanville Hospital is one step closer to acquiring a laparoscopic tower and instrument set – equipment necessary for minimally invasive surgical procedures – after donations from the local and international Lions Clubs.

The hospital just secured a first installment of nearly $150,000 from the Lions Club International Foundation, funding made possible from previous donations of $250,000 and $70,000 from the local clubs in Bowmanville and Newcastle.

The local donations earned a matching grant from the international arm of the service club, located just outside of Chicago.

Maria Petri, the CEO of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, said the donations have brought this “critical investment in surgical care” within reach.

“This donation is a shining example of how local service clubs make a lasting impact in their communities,” she said. “The Bowmanville Lions Club and Newcastle Lions Club have been unwavering supporters of Bowmanville Hospital, and their leadership in securing this funding …
