Countries around the world are strategizing their next fiscal actions after the Trump administration imposed tariffs on all countries, which has ignited turmoil in the global economy.

Why It Matters

The global financial market was reeling Thursday morning in response to U.S. President Donald Trump‘s announcement that will impose a 10 percent tariff on all countries starting April 5, with individualized reciprocal higher tariffs on countries with the largest trade deficits with the United States beginning April 9.

Trump’s newest move follows previous 25 percent tariffs levied against both Canada and Mexico; 10 percent tariffs against China that were later increased to 20 percent; 25 percent tariffs on all global imports of steel and aluminum; and 25 percent tariffs on all foreign-made vehicles as part of what Trump dubbed “Liberation Day” as a method of bringing manufacturing back to the states.
