Lithium Universe advances Bécancour Lithium Refinery project [Video]

Lithium Universe Ltd (ASX: LU7) CEO Alex Hanly drops in for a chat with Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson about progress at the Bécancour Lithium Refinery Project in Canada, which remains on schedule.
Key achievements include finalising the plant layout, issuance of technical specifications for capital expenditure estimation and progress in supplier quotation activities. Environmental studies are ongoing without significant issues and Hatch’s office transition to Montreal is proceeding smoothly, ensuring project continuity.
Procurement activities are advancing with technical specifications sent to suppliers for detailed quotations. Nine mechanical equipment packages have been issued with seven offers received. Electrical equipment supply packages will be issued soon, aiming for evaluation completion by the end of September. The tenderer list will be expanded to reduce lead times for electrical transformers.
Engineering efforts focus on finalising the plant layout, preparing equipment documentation and creating the main power distribution diagram. Proposals are being reviewed to meet project requirements with attention to handling process effluent and site runoff. The plant layout includes new areas, structural framing, civil works and optimised plant switch rooms.
Environmental work involves field inventories and surveys, with no species at risk identified. The Phase I study is progressing, with no environmental liabilities found. Preparation of permitting documents will commence soon to ensure compliance.
Priorities include finalising environmental permitting, civil design and water management strategy, alongside procurement and engineering tasks. A recent delegation to Eastern Canada engaged with government and community stakeholders, reinforcing support for the project. Meetings with various provincial and federal government representatives highlighted Québec’s advantages and strategic benefits for lithium conversion.
