CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – China, Canada, Brazil and Mexico. All countries hit by the latest round of President Trump’s tariffs. This time 25% on steel and aluminum.
But one local company said this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
While his company already primarily uses American made steel, Richard Galligan, President of Construction Materials Incorporated in Cedar Rapids said these new tariffs give more opportunity to U.S. producers.
“It just allows American companies to compete. Some products may see an increase because of that. But you got to know they’re American made products and you know, I know that doesn’t help the sting, but just know that the money stays home,” said Galligan.
On the flip side, there are some other goods that might see some price hikes, including cars.
