Loopholes around airline compensation persist amid Ottawa’s effort to simplify rules

According to Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations, an airline must pay passengers up to $1,000 when it is at fault for a flight disruption. However, if the delay was ‘required for safety,’ the airline pays nothing. Some consumer advocates call that a loophole that benefits airlines.
