Joel Filipe plans to turn a recent stroke of good luck into a new home for his family.

The married Mississauga father of two won a Triple Millions prize worth $50,000 in the Aug. 29 main draw, officials with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation said in a news release. Triple Millions is a new, limited-time OLG game.

“I was at home when I decided to check my ticket using the OLG app. When I realized I had won, it was pretty exciting,” Filipe recalled while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I never expected to win big. I shared the good news with a few family members and close friends. They were shocked and very happy for me.”

Filipe, who’s been playing the lottery weekly for about 10 years, said he plans to use the money to help buy a home.
