Low-cost airline shuts down and merges with major Canadian company [Video]

A low-cost Canadian airline has shut down and merged with another company.

The last Sunwing Vacations flight took off on May 28 and the company’s vacation package customers will now travel on WestJet flights.

WestJet acquired Sunwing Airlines in March of 2023 with the intention of integrating the low-cost carrier into its mainline business. WestJet announced it planned to integrate Sunwing by Oct. 26, 2024 but that date was pushed forward.

Customers will no longer see Sunwing aircraft.

“Today marks a significant milestone, as all Sunwing Vacations package customers will travel on board WestJet flights now that the final Sunwing Airlines aircraft have been integrated into WestJet,” said Andrew Dawson, president of Sunwing Vacations Group. “This transition is important because it will deliver a unified experience to our guests, both at the airport and in the sky, in addition to enhancing connectivity and allowing us to provide more vacation packages to our valued customers on a year-round basis.”
