Melissa Peter-Paul, a Mi’kmaw artist from Abegweit First Nation in P.E.I., has been creating quillwork art for almost a decade. Through her art, Peter-Paul feels connected to her culture, her family and her ancestors. And in 2023, her quillwork connected with Indigenous athletes from across North America when the City of Halifax purchased two of her pieces to use on host trading pins for the North American Indigenous Games.
