AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) – Maine Gov. Janet Mills and five other governors in the Northeast are hoping to host six Canadian premiers at a summit in an effort to maintain strong relationships between Canada and the northeastern United States.

The six governors invited the premiers of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Québec to meet in Boston in the near future to discuss President Donald Trump’s tariffs and the importance of a healthy cross-border partnership.

Mills partnered with Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont on the effort. New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte, a Republican, is not part of the coalition of six governors, all of whom are Democrats with the exception of Scott, who is also a Republican.
