AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) – On Wednesday, our media partner, WMTW, caught up with Gov. Janet Mills on President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, the federal employees who provide heading assistance who were fired and Maine’s final warning on Title IX.

“I’m not going to talk about the transgender thing if that’s what you’re asking about,” Mills said. “Look, this isn’t about that. It’s about the rule of law, pure and simple.”

WMTW tried to ask Mills if she would support Republican legislation that would change the Maine Human Rights Act in order for the state to become compliant with the Trump administration’s interpretation of Title IX.

“Any fifth-grade civics student knows that there are three branches of government,” Mills said. “The obligation of the chief executive is that the laws be faithfully executed.”

Mills did, however, comment on what Trump is calling “Liberation Day” as his sweeping tariffs are going into effect.
