Major delays expected on QEW for Ontario drivers headed to Niagara [Video]

History has shown us that if any lanes are closed or blocked on the Burlington Skyway, it leads to traffic delays.

Some have called it chaos.

Should motorists expect anything different this weekend?

Beginning Friday night (May 30) at 10 p.m. and continuing until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 2, two lanes of the Niagara-bound lanes on the Skyway will be closed for maintenance work.

The last time lanes were reduced from four to two on the bridge that carries the QEW over Hamilton Harbour, commuters and weekend travellers who were headed to The Falls faced lengthy delays as traffic was often backed up into Oakville.

When that occurred on the weekend of May 9 to May 12, it caught many drivers unaware, which led to traffic jams during the daylight hours on the QEW and heavy congestion through Burlington as travellers left the highway to seek alternate routes around the Skyway.
