The Malheur and Owyhee rivers are both running high right now due to snowpack runoff and high reservoir levels.

ONTARIO, Ore. — Residents in Malheur County should be prepared for flooding risks, as two rivers in the area are running high. 

Heavy snowpack in the region and high reservoir levels are some reasons the rivers are at an increased flow, said a spokesperson for the Malheur County Emergency Management Office. Ontario and Harper are reporting flood-related problems, such as road issues and pooling water near their houses. 

Rebecca Strickler, director of the Malheur County Emergency Management Office, said that residents should be prepared for more flooding. Strickler provides some tips for managing flood waters.

Staying out of flood waters is critical, as standing flood water can hide dangerous objects or bacteria. 

Do not drive through flood water or road closures. Flood waters can hide how damaged the roads really are and can also damage vehicle engines.
