A man has been arrested and is facing multiple fraud charges after an alleged string of mail thefts in Ontario.
A police report from today indicated that the York Regional Police Investigations Bureau arrested a man in the Town of Newmarket and has laid multiple fraud-related charges.
40-year-old Jiaming Wang, of no fixed address, was arrested on Jan. 27 and was charged with the following:
- Fraud Over $5,000 (seven counts)
- Obtain Credit by False Pretences (six counts)
- Identity Theft (six counts)
- Identity Fraud (six counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Posses Identity Documents
- Theft Under $5,000
These charges trace back to an investigation launched on December 4, 2024, that was the result of multiple victims coming forward and alleging that their mail had been stolen.
Investigations then determined that various banking and identification documents belonging to the victims went missing from their respective mailboxes.
