Man “devastated” over losing fathers ashes after Dawson Creek encampment cleared [Video]

DAWSON CREEK –A homeless encampment in Dawson Creek was cleared on Wednesday night. Those removed from the private property have now set up camp on the lawn of the Provincial Building on 103rd Ave.

A man named Richard lost a prized possession when the camp was cleared out – his father’s ashes.

“It was in there with everything I owned. Picked up with one bucket of machinery and put in a dumpster. All I can think is why would you not wait for me to come back,” Richard told CJDC.

He said the ashes were in a trinket that he kept in the inside pocket of a black pair of overalls. Richard describes the events of the last two days as  “devastating.”

Richard also told CJDC that the B.C. Sheriff’s Service told members of the encampment they had to move from the lawn of the Provincial Building this morning. …
