A man was found dead in a frozen Ontario lake on Monday after having gone through the ice while on a Utility Terrain Vehicle, police say.
His body was discovered in Round Lake in Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township, around 70 km northeast of Bancroft.
Ontario Provincial Police said that on Monday afternoon at around 1:15 p.m., it was reported that the man was “overdue” after heading out on his UTV that morning.
“Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment and Renfrew County Paramedics responded and found UTV tracks leading to an opening in the ice,” OPP said.
The OPP’s underwater unit recovered the man’s body from the lake at around 6 p.m.
The victim was an 80-year-old resident of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township.
“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death, which is believed to be drowning,” OPP said.
