Shootings have become so common in Hamilton this year that police made its shooting response team permanent, part of the drug and gangs unit. The team investigates all non-fatal shootings. By the start of August, the team had charged 18 people with 149 charges.

The video runs just six seconds, but features two gun men, six shots fired in the city’s core, and a third man described by police as a “human shield.”

The video, recorded on a dashboard camera 90 minutes before sunset, shows a man wearing a black hoodie with his hood up, pulling a handgun as he walks backwards across Sanford Avenue North, just south of King Street East.
